The Executive Desk: Transitions
Hal C. Lawrence III, MD, Executive Vice President and CEO
In this edition of the Executive Desk, I’d like to take the opportunity to wish each and every one of you a happy and healthy holiday season. We are especially proud to be serving the needs of you, our members, as we strive to improve the practice of ob-gyn across the nation.
This November/December issue of ACOG Rounds marks the one-year anniversary of the launch of your monthly member e-newsletter. During the past year, ACOG Rounds has published over 100 articles with the goal of keeping you up to date on news and key developments happening within ACOG that can affect your patients and practice. To see past articles, please review the ACOG Rounds archive.
Would you take a few moments to let us know how we’re doing? We’d love to hear your feedback about ACOG Rounds: Send comments to Rounds@acog.org.
As we approach the end of 2015, I am reminded of recent and upcoming transitions and would like to mention just a few. In November, former ACOG executive director Warren H. Pearse, MD, passed away. As executive director for 18 years, his contributions were many but perhaps most notably included moving ACOG headquarters to Washington, D.C. in 1981; our headquarters building is named for him.
We also have some changes to announce regarding the ACOG executive leadership team.
First, Gerald Joseph, MD, is retiring in December, having served in two key staff roles: he was recently vice president of Fellowship Activities and before that, vice president of Practice Activities. Dr. Joseph is also a past president of ACOG and was a practicing ob-gyn for many years. You can read an engaging Q&A with him in this issue of ACOG Rounds.
I am also pleased to welcome Rick Robinson, MBA, CPA, to ACOG as our first chief operating officer. As the needs of ACOG’s members evolve, and the health care landscape shifts, the role of chief operating officer ensures we have the capabilities to lead and respond to critical issues regarding women’s health.
Here’s wishing you and yours happy holidays and a happy new year.
