Hal C. Lawrence III, MD, Executive Vice President and CEO
Summer is here and with it comes some new ACOG products, a great addition to the ACOG app, and opportunities for global service.
In the President’s Blog, new ACOG president Tom Gellhaus, MD, FACOG, shares his passion for global women’s health and invites all members to look beyond our country’s borders and consider opportunities to serve resource-scarce countries through our partnership with Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO).
In this same vein, as part of Dr. Gellhaus’ six-point plan to improve the health care of women and children around the world, a pilot project has been initiated in Malawi to implement the Alliance for Innovation in Maternal Health (AIM) safety bundles. The program is headed by Joseph Sclafani, MD, a Baylor College of Medicine professor at the Kazmuzu Hospital in Lilongwe, Malawi. Read about this exciting initiative in AIM Takes on Maternal Mortality in Malawi.
If you are not a user of the ACOG app (a member benefit to all members), we now have a great new reason to download the app today. All ACOG Practice Bulletins have now been added to the app. Committee Opinions have always been on the app, and the addition of the Practice Bulletins means that you now have a complete set of ACOG guidance at your fingertips for on-the-go access. See Use Version 2.1 of the ACOG App to Access Practice Bulletins for information on how to download the app.
For a quick review of ACOG’s latest clinical guidance, see Practice Updates for June/July, including the latest on Zika.
ACOG’s Practice Department is also pleased to fulfill the vision of immediate past president Mark DeFrancesco, MD, FACOG, to help ob-gyns provide more comprehensive care to their patients, especially in the areas of obesity and tobacco and nicotine cessation, with two new toolkits. Each toolkit provides all-in-one-place essential resources to help with these common but deadly problem areas. See New Toolkits Help Ob-gyns Better Combat Obesity and Smoking .

Here's wishing you and yours an enjoyable summer!
