Medical Education: American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) Debuts Online Master Course on Vaginal Hysterectomy
As part of its mission to provide relevant, quality education to gynecologic surgeons, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) has produced an intensive multi-part ‘Master Course’ webinar series on vaginal hysterectomy. The goal of this course is to provide gynecologists with an opportunity to renew and refresh their skills in vaginal hysterectomy, which as noted by ACOG, is associated with better patient outcomes and fewer complications than abdominal hysterectomy.
The first-of-its-kind three-part series highlights why vaginal hysterectomy is preferred and provides gynecologists with a review of skills and techniques. Available at www.aagl.org/vaghystwebinar, the course was developed by expert vaginal surgeons, featuring surgical videos and live demonstrations on cadaveric models to present pertinent anatomic structures and their relationships. The series also offers step-by-step illustrations using different techniques and the latest surgical innovations to ensure patient safety and maximize outcomes. The videos are free to physicians, and CME credit is also available.
To make this learning opportunity widely available, AAGL is presenting the series in cooperation with ACOG and the Society for Gynecologic Surgeons (SGS) and is promoting the course to each group’s membership. AAGL, ACOG and SGS encourage members to use this comprehensive, quality training tool. Our three societies recognize that vaginal hysterectomy is one of the many minimally invasive options that can be used by today’s gynecologic surgeons based on the individual needs of each patient, and we are excited to offer this groundbreaking new skills refresher program.
