Advocacy & Health Policy: ACOG Brings Top Advocates from Around the Country for End-of-Year Lobbying Effort

In November, ACOG President Thomas Gellhaus, MD, along with ten other top ob-gyn advocates, lobbied congressional leadership, committee chairs, and ranking members on end-of-year priorities:

  • Enact a 21st Century Cures package to advance research in pregnant and breastfeeding women
  • Enact a mental health reform package that helps women and families suffering from postpartum depression
  • Enact a National Defense Authorization Act that preserves access to ob-gyns and pediatricians in the Military Health System
  • Fully fund the Improving Treatment for Pregnant and Postpartum Women Act passed as part of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act

These priorities have bipartisan support and are extremely important for our specialty and for women’s health. Throughout the years, ACOG has developed relationships with both Republicans and Democrats, which is what makes these advocacy activities so successful.

Now, we ask you to raise your voice! Join in and help ensure these legislative priorities cross the finish line.

Take Action! Tell your Members of Congress: don’t leave women’s health behind!
