Clinical Practice: Improving the Delivery of College Practice Documents

How can ACOG best deliver and present important practice documents in a timely manner to our members? This is a question that physician and staff leaders at ACOG have explored more fully recently as we strive to evolve the format of College practice documents, which are among the most valued of ACOG products.

Because they are evidence-based, practice documents can be very long. This makes key sections and recommendations harder to find. It also presents challenges for the inclusion of the full documents in the print Green Journal, which has page limitations. At the same time, members have changing and differing preferences for the medium through which they read practice documents—extending more and more beyond print to online and mobile app access.

Shorter, New Summary Format

To balance varying member content needs and viewing preferences with financial and printing practicalities, ACOG is adding a new 1-2 page Summary format for most practice documents which will debut in the September 2015 edition of the Green Journal (both print and online at Each Summary contains key sections pulled from the corresponding full document.

Full-Text Content Still Available

The full-text version of the practice documents are available in digital format at, in the Green Journal iPad app, or at (The print Green Journal will no longer include the full-text documents.)
